Lest I not forget to write about our outdoor adventures, I wanted to share some photos from our weekend staycation up in Tabernash with Laura and Jared. It was a nice, relaxing weekend with a few fun events thrown in here and there.

Our weekend started with some last minute tidying and organizing in order to get our place photo-ready for the last post (you’re welcome). Then it was off to Winter Park. We took the Village Cabriolet to the base, window shopped and then watched a bit of the BMX racing. Unfortunately, it wasn’t very interesting and we left shortly after we arrived.

Ryan and Sadie sort of enjoyed watching cyclists compete at the race park. I, however, was completely bored and tired.

Once the Veenstras were done with work, we gathered together for a nice taco dinner. Then we girls relaxed the rest of the night while the boys played Modern Warfare…of course. I went to bed early because Baby H keeps me tossing and turning at night lately and I hadn’t gotten much sleep the night before. Needless to say, I didn’t get great sleep that night either.

But the next day we went back to WP with free passes/medallions so Ryan could ride the alpine slide after a 10-year hiatus. I had a terrible experience last year (it may or may not involve a portly lady’s lack of brake control and lower back pain for me), so I was fine to sit out with Laura and the pooches and be the action photographer.

Going up! Oh, and yes, Jared is pretending to fall, mostly to annoy/scare his wife.

Speed racer.

Since we were starving after the boys’ sled run, we decided to go to Timberline Thai, as I wanted to introduce the other three to a new cuisine. Laura was reluctant, but the smells lured her in. Unfortunately, she selected the only dish of our order that she didn’t care for, therefore keeping her wariness of cultural fare alive.

After lunch, we (aka the girls) thought a nice trip to Grand Lake would be fun to do a little window shopping. On our way, Laura suggested we take the free chairlift at Solvista in Granby…apparently the only redeeming quality of the town according to certain snobby Tabernash locals. But I won’t name any names. It was a pretty view and we were reminded of what the ski hills looked like back in the Midwest…tiny.

It only took one try for me to get this charming foursome photo.

After our time in Grand Lake, strolling in and out of the shops (much to the dismay of Jarei), we headed back for some dinner and a movie.

On Monday, I felt rested enough to partake in a 6-mile hike – hooray! So despite our shock from the crazy wind and chilly (albeit sunny) weather, we bundled up and went off-roading to get to the trailhead to Columbine Lake. It was a gorgeous hike and our lunch and naptime at the lake were well worth the extra effort it took for me, the preggo slowpoke.

Our first of many photo ops.

Good group.

Trailblazing.

Oh, you know...just a lovely waterfall on the way.

At the lake!

Our perfect napping and photo spot.

Sadie loves hiking – she never got tired. For such a small little package, she's got stamina.

And that was our extended holiday weekend. Good times had by all, and we even missed holiday traffic on the way home – bonus!

Still the adventurer despite my delicate condition,
Laura
