Before I get started on the post where I describe all the fun we had with my parents and Aaron, I thought I’d share more of my brain with you all regarding careers and life in general.

Two of my favorite recent quotes are:

“Therein lies the best career advice I could possibly dispense: just DO things. Chase after the things that interest you and make you happy. Stop acting like you have a set path, because you don’t. No one does.” – Charlie Hoehn

“A dream becomes reality one opportunity at a time. And if you work like it depends on you and pray like it depends on God, there is no telling what God can do in you and through you. … Chase the lion! It’s what you are destined to do.” – Mark Batterson

A month or two ago, Ryan sent me to this guy’s website and told me to apply for the program. I would have loved to, but I figured I was already getting into enough projects of my own. But I sort of feel a kinship to him – he just did things that interested him, too. And there are more like us. It makes me feel good to know there are other “wandering souls” out there, and that this type of trial-run career idea is encouraged. Especially with the economy the way it is – what better time than now to experiment?

I also found a great poem the other day and thought I would share it since it’s been my mentality for the last year. Hope you find these things inspiring, too.

If there was ever a time to dare,
to make a difference,
to embark on something worth doing,

Not for any grand cause, necessarily…
but for something that tugs at your heart,
something that’s your inspiration,
something that’s your dream.

You owe it to yourself
to make your days here count.

Know, though, that things worth doing seldom come easy.
There will be good days.
And there will be bad days.
There will be times when you want to turn around,
pack it up, and call it quits.

Those times tell you
that you are pushing yourself,
that you are not afraid to learn by trying.

Because with an idea,
and the right tools,
you can do great things.

Let your instincts,
your intellect,
and your heart,
guide you.

Believe in the incredible power of the human mind.
Of doing something that makes a difference.
Of working hard.
Of laughing and hoping.
Of lazy afternoons.
Of lasting friends.
Of all the things that will cross your path this year.

The start of something new
brings the hope of something great,
