Well it’s the start of the first full week all to ourselves. Just Ryan, Sonora and me – our little family of three. (for the record, I did not try to rhyme but it sounds kinda cute, right?) The inlaws left on Saturday night after a nice week and a perfect last two days. We had a great time with them and they are already missed. Though, I do have to admit that it’s been fun having Sonora all to ourselves now…she’s just such a good baby!

But I’m not just writing about that. This post is also to inform you all that this will not cease to be an adventure blog. I’ll have you know that we went on a couple “adventures” this past weekend, and they were almost as eventful as usual, even with a tiny.

Yep, we’re back at it, folks!

For starters, on Friday, the inlaws and I went to Littleton to check out the historic downtown and cute shops. We had a great time meandering and window shopping, grabbing lunch at a cute little sandwich shop and enjoying the fantastic 70-degree weather. And that is where I experienced my first public feeding – literally walking around downtown with a cover (not even sitting down) and little baby Sonora gulping away. I didn’t think I’d feel comfortable doing this, but realized after a couple times of seclusion that I wasn’t going to let breastfeeding change my lifestyle. And it felt great. I also had my first semi-awkward public feeding when, needing to find a shady spot by our car right before we left, the only area was a place that sold gravestones. Slightly weird. But I sat myself on a gravestone in the “park” to feed her, then changed a poo-poo diaper and afterward we went on our merry way.

That’s right. I DID just blog about poop. It has begun.

Later that day, when Ryan was done with work, we continued to enjoy the great weather by taking a nice walk around the lake by our place. Sonora seems to enjoy these nature walks, too, as she was lulled to sleep by the bumps and bounces of the dirt trail. I was pretty much exhausted after a full day of walking and feeding a tiny (my word, she eats a lot!), so we called it a night.

The next day was E-Days (or “engineering days”, a School of Mines festival) downtown our beloved town of Golden, and what a perfect day that was! It was 77 degrees and gorgeous. I actually had to strip Sonora down to her little tank and diaper because she was far too overdressed and the poor little thing got hot. If you remember my post from last year, you’ll know that there are all kinds of events, from trebuchet contests and cardboard boat races to bouncy castle games and burro races, plus free food & Coors. Since I missed the boat races last year due to work, we were bound and determined to get their early this year. We got a great spot – just far enough down to where the boats fall apart as they went over a rapid. It was highly entertaining to see the boats and their rowers’ antics. After the race, we headed up to the field for some food and watch a bit of the trebuchet contest. We had to leave Sadie in the car so after about an hour, full of good food and a little sunburned, we headed back home to let the grandparents snuggle with Sonora before their flight home.

What a fun weekend.

Other events that happened during Sonora’s second week of life were:

  • She got a belly button! Her umbilical cord stump fell off on her two-week birthday, just in time for the doctor visit.
  • She also got her first real bath, which she seemed to like – no fussing at all.
  • I wore her in my Moby wrap for the first time.
  • And she went out to eat at Woody’s – one of our favorite restaurants in our favorite town.

And here are some photos of our time from last week:

Getting ready for her first bath!

She's loving it!

"Oo, head massage. That's niiice."

Crying because she wanted to soak longer, like a little princess.

Hard at work.

Snuggle time with Mommy.

Going for a walk!

Babywearing - holla.

Waiting for our table at Woody's.

Awkward public feeding.

Just some lake prettiness.

Watching the cardboard boat race for E-Days.

Thank heavens I wore layers...it was HOT!

So that was our week/weekend. See? We’re still fun.

Love,
Laura
